Under the agreement, Digital Realty Trust will provide 10,000sq.ft. of raised floor space close to London, to Visa Europe.

In addition, through its Build-to-Suit program, Digital Realty Trust will leverage its data centre design and construction expertise to oversee the construction of the new data centre.

Visa Europe chief information officer Steve Chambers said Visa is committed to consistently providing its European customers with robust, reliable and secure payment services, and to achieve this they rely on state of the art data centre facilities which provide the foundation for their business.

"By working with Digital Realty Trust, we have been able to achieve our needs within a defined timeframe and budget; and this level of commitment is critical to minimize our risks and optimize our operations," Chambers said.

Digital Realty Trust international operations head Frederick Potter said with two financial services organizations having signed agreements with the company in recent months, they continue to see escalating demand for data centre space across the EU.

"By choosing our Build-to-Suit data centre program, Visa Europe has been able to specify its exact requirements for the proposed facility, with the full support of our industry experts," Potter said.

"Through our integrated service, our customers gain access to the up-to-date datacentre technology in a prime location with none of the risk associated with a do-it-yourself project."
