Under the terms of the agreement, Citibank will successively open UnionPay card acceptance business at its merchants in seven countries, namely, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam and India. Besides, Citibank online merchants will open to UnionPay cardholders.
In 2005, the UnionPay and Citibank established the strategic cooperation relationship and UnionPay card realized acceptance by the global ATM network and merchants in certain regions of Citibank since then.
Currently, the scope of cooperation covers 34 countries and regions in and out of China.
The signing of the agreement is expected to enhance the usage scope of UnionPay cards at merchants in Asia and promote the global cooperation between the two parties to be further strengthened.
