Having more than 20 years of financial services expertise, Sonnenstein will report to chief financial officer Ron Farnsworth, according to the bank.

Umpqua Bank president and CEO Ray Davis said the bank seeks to provide its customers with better experience in bank’s stores, online, or on mobile devices.

"Sonny’s decades of experience at the intersection of financial services and technology provide us key leadership for 2013 and beyond, enabling us to meet and exceed what our customers have grown to expect from Umpqua Bank," Davis added.

Prior to accepting the current job, he served as svp and Group cio for Corporate Systems and Information Management at First Horizon in Memphis.

He also held positions as senior strategy and technology with Wachovia, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, in the US and UK, and as a principal and co-founder of Core Technology Partners.

Headquartered in Roseburg, the bank trades as a subsidiary of Umpqua Holdings with locations between San Francisco and Seattle, along the Oregon and Northern California Coast, and in Central Oregon and Northern Nevada.
