Mr Paris will be based in New York and report to Steven Smith, global head of leveraged finance and head of financial sponsors, Americas.
Mr Paris was previously a managing director in leveraged finance at Deutsche Bank in New York. Before moving to New York to focus exclusively on leveraged finance, he spent three years in Chicago in Deutsche Bank’s leveraged finance group and covering the Midwest Financial Sponsor community. Most recently, he was a managing director and head of the paper and packaging group at Barclays Capital.
Mr Smith said: “As debt markets have begun to normalize, we are seeing a growing pipeline of leveraged deals, and we expect that pace to quicken as we move through 2010. Mr Paris possesses both a deep experience in leveraged finance and a strong ability to advise on and execute even the most complex transactions for clients. I am delighted he is joining UBS.”
