Peele will succeed Carl Wicker, who will retire on 31 March 2011.
Based in Charlotte, Peele will report to SunTrust Banks, central division president and CEO Gary Peacock.
Peele most recently has served as commercial line of business manager for the SunTrust’s Atlanta region, following retail line of business leadership roles in Atlanta and Tampa.
Prior to joining SunTrust in 2002, he served as retail group executive for West Florida and retail district and area manager for Huntington National Bank, and in a variety of retail, business banking and commercial banking roles with Barnett Bank.
Peacock said Bill brings more than 20 years of retail and commercial line of business experience — and a reputation for effective leadership inside and outside of the bank — to his new role.
"There is significant opportunity to continue growing SunTrust’s market share in the Mecklenburg/South Carolina region and Bill has a track record of doing just that, " Peacock said.
