Reuters also reported that Christine Ip, head of consumer banking at Standard Chartered Bank China, said: If we can get the regulatory approval…hopefully next year (we will start issuing cards).

If successful, the bank expects to launch a dual-currency card for its wealthier customers and small and mid-sized corporate customers, the publication added.

Referring to the credit card business as a costly assignment, Ms Ip stated that the bank does not intend to issue cards aggressively for building a strong customer base. As cited in Reuters, Ms Ip said: We don’t want to give away cards. We see credit cards as part of a holistic customer proposition.
