With the new head on board, Scotibank is gearing up to expand its overseas operations, including Mexico, Chile, Peru and Asia, where it could leverage a strong banking presence.

Scotiabank’s private client unit head Cathy Welling announced the appointment of Blanco on his new position, reported the Wall Street Journal.

Its wealth unit would be looking for acquisition opportunities in partnership with Scotia Capital and international banking.

In 2004, Blanco joined the bank, and worked on various positions as a part of the international banking mergers and acquisitions team, where he played a key role in expanding the bank’s presence across Latin America. Blanco received promotion as vice president for Latin America at international banking in 2009.

Before joining Scotiabank, Blanco acted in deal execution and client coverage roles for JP Morgan Chase & Co investment-banking unit in the US and Mexico.
