Mobile app

RBS and NatWest customers with iPhone 5S, iPhone6 and iPhone 6 Plus will be able to use Apple’s Touch ID fingerprint sensor to access their mobile banking app in a short span of time.

By recognizing the unique finger print of customer, the technology makes it easier and convenient for customers to access their finances.

RBS and NatWest Direct Bank managing director Stuart Haire said: "There has been a revolution in banking, as more and more of our customers are using digital technology to bank with us.

"Adding Touch ID to our mobile banking app makes it even easier and more convenient for customers to manage their finances on the move and directly responds to their requests."

Touch ID is said to be available to iPhone 5S, 6 & 6 Plus customers on iOS8; RBS and NatWest mobile app users with selected smartphones; personal current account customers holding a debit card, online banking and UK mobile number.

Customers who are not interested to use Touch ID can use their passcode to access their mobile banking.

Both banks are part of RBS, in which the British government holds 80% stake.

In June 2014, RBS announced plans to invest more than $1.5bn over the next three years to enable customers to bank easily even when on-the-move, Reuters reported.

British banking and insurance holding company RBS has its offices located in Europe, North America and Asia and operates a range of banking brands offering personal and business banking, private banking, insurance and corporate finance.
