Currently working as RBS Group Finance director, Van Saun will also serve as head of RBS Americas.

In 2009, Van Saun joined RBS as group finance director and has more than 30 years experience in the financial services industry.

During 1997 to 2008, he held various management roles with Bank of New York and later Bank of New York Mellon, most recently as vice chairman and chief financial officer.

He was also responsible for the Asset Management and Market Related businesses.

Prior to that, he has also worked in senior positions with Deutsche Bank, Wasserstein Perella Group and Kidder Peabody & Co. He worked as an advisor to US private equity firms through RBS, from late 2008.

The 82% UK government bank was forced to accept a £45bn bailout package, when it was on the brink of collapse during the financial crisis of 2008.
