Barclays has appointed Michael Shaw as a deputy group general counsel reporting to the Barclays group general counsel, Mark Harding.

Mr. Shaw will be responsible for supporting the management of the Barclays legal function and the provision of legal support and advice to the board and senior management of the bank.

Mr. Shaw joins from Herbert Smith where as a partner in their corporate practice, he specialised in corporate law, with particular emphasis on takeovers, domestic and international equity issues, mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructurings and joint ventures. He was previously seconded as joint secretary to the panel on takeovers and mergers for two years until June 1998.
