Based in Beijing, Schwartz will take care of overall business of the Asia Pacific region, said the US firm.

Commenting on the rejoining of Schwartz to the firm, Goldman Sachs chairman and chief executive officer Lloyd Blankfein said, "He played a critical role in helping to build our businesses across Asia Pacific, and those experiences and relationships will be even more important as we focus on continuing to help our clients and grow our franchise across the region," Blankfein added.

Expressing his happiness to return to Goldman Sachs Schwartz said, "The Asia Pacific region continues to represent many of the most dynamic and important economies in the world and I’m thrilled to help lead Goldman Sachs’ efforts as we respond to the multi-faceted needs of our clients."

Schwartz will co-operate with Masa Mochida, president of Goldman Sachs Japan, and David Ryan, president of Goldman Sachs Asia Pacific Ex-Japan, to boost the firm’s franchise.

In Goldman Sachs, Schwartz served as a president of Japanese operations from 1997 to 2001 and chairman of Goldman Sachs Asia from 1999 to 2001.

Since joining Goldman Sachs’ investment banking division in 1997, Schwartz worked with various departments in the firm and was acting as the chairman of MissionPoint Capital Partners, since 2006.
