The company said the appointment is part of the continued expansion of its global index portfolio management team and capabilities.
In his role, Tyler will manage global equity index portfolios for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region clients in line with Northern Trust’s team-based approach.
Northern Trust added that a number of index strategies are run from London, including developed and emerging market equities, small cap equities, and futures- and currency-overlay.
Tyler joins from State Street Global Advisors where he was a senior portfolio manager for global equity beta solutions.
Previously, Tyler was a passive and enhanced equity portfolio manager at Gulf International Bank in London for nine years.
Northern Trust head of index equity portfolio management for EMEA Nick Dymond said that Nigel brings a wealth of experience and a skill-set that continues to build on, and complement, the team’s range of expertise.
