To increase its presence in the brokerage business in the US, Nomura Securities International has appointed Ciaran O’Kelly as managing director and head of equities for the Americas – reported Bloomberg.
Since last October, the company has increased its staff in the US considarably. In May this year, Nomura had hired Chuck Teixeira as COO for equities in the Americas and three research sales employees. Mr. O’Kelly said that the company’s equity division has also hired for derivatives, programs, quantitative and algorithmic trading.
Mr. O’Kelly was head of global equities at the Charlotte, North Carolina-based Bank of America. In Nomura, he will be responsible for liquid markets, derivatives and prime services. He will be based in New York and report to Shigesuke Kashiwagi, CEO, and as well as to Rachid Bouzouba, head of equities at Nomura International.
In an interview Mr. O’Kelly said: “This is a very exciting opportunity to create a new business from the ground up. This is something I’ve done before. I like to build businesses. The net result will be a very powerful global platform,” reported the newspaper.
Nomura Securities is the US-based division of Nomura Holdings that provides securities research and trading, asset management, and capital markets services to individual, institutional, corporate, and government clients. It is a seller of Japanese equities in the US. The company’s fixed income division underwrites and trades government bonds and derivatives.
