In his role, Downey will lead Nomura’s equities trading platform and enhance the firm’s ability to deliver risk management capabilities to clients.
Downey will also join Nomura’s European equities executive management committee, and will work alongside Makram Fares, co-head of equity sales and co-head of equity derivatives for EMEA.
Based in London, Downey will report to Sam Ruiz, head of equities for EMEA and Christian Dalban, global head of equities trading.
Downey joins Nomura from UBS, where he was most recently head of equity derivatives trading for EMEA.
Ruiz said that Steven has an excellent track record in leadership and client commitment, and is well-respected in the market for delivering outstanding service. He is a significant addition to the team.
