Nationwide has stated that customers can now change their credit limit, order replacements for damaged cards or request a PIN reminder online. Customers will also be able to set their own monthly direct debit payment amount over the internet, allowing them to choose how much they pay to their credit card each month.

According to Nationwide, these improvements mean that cardholders are now more in control of their repayment options and are therefore better able to manage their budgets.

Nationwide customers can also opt to go green, canceling their paper statements and viewing them online instead. According to the society, if all of its customers cancelled their paper statements, 40 million sheets of paper would be saved in just one year.

Nationwide also stated that, since this option was offered to FlexAccount holders in June 2005, 200,000 customers have chosen to suppress their statements.

Jeremy Wood, divisional director at Nationwide, said: Nationwide is committed to reducing the impact the society has on the environment. We have been using recycled paper on all our marketing literature and monthly statements for over three years so statement suppression is a natural step for us.

He concluded: With the help of our customers opting to view their statements online, we can take another step to improve our environment.
