MoneyGram has signed an agreement with the European retailer, Carrefour to add money transfer service agents and facilities to 22 of its hypermarkets throughout Romania.

Reportedly, the MoneyGram’s money transfer service supports Carrefour’s customers by allowing them to send and receive money transfers in shopping locations.

MoneyGram said that it has been providing services in Romania for more than 15 years. Agents in Romania include: Romanian Commercial Bank, UniCredit Tiriac Bank, OTP Bank, ProCredit Bank, Libra Bank, Alpha Bank, Speed Transfer, Smith&Smith, and Intesa San Paolo Ban.

John Hempsey, head of MoneyGram, said: “We are pleased to expand our relationship with Carrefour and establish a key presence in its prominent Romanian hypermarkets. Romania continues to be a significant focus in MoneyGram’s global growth strategy. The country is one of MoneyGram’s largest markets in terms of transactions received. More than 2 million Romanians live in Spain, Italy, the US and the UK and regularly send money home to their families.”

Jean Claude Mota, director of Carrefour, said: “Adding MoneyGram’s reliable money-transfer services to our markets in Romania will save our customers time and resources, especially those customers with relatives who are living abroad and sending funds back home. In addition to shopping for both department store goods and groceries, customers can now complete international financial transactions, all during one store visit.”
