Bank of America Merrill Lynch has announced that AJ Murphy will join the company as a managing director and head of Americas Leveraged Loan Capital Markets. Ms Murphy will be based in New York and report to David Flannery, Head of Global Leveraged Finance. She is expected to join in October.

The bank says that Leveraged Finance is a core competency at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. In addition to Leveraged Loans, the Leveraged Finance business includes Global Loan Syndications, which continues to be led by Tom Okel, and High Yield Capital Markets, which continues to be led by John Cokinos.

At JPMorgan, Murphy was one of the senior officers in the leveraged capital markets group, which includes both leveraged loan and high-yield bond underwriting. She also worked at Deutsche Bank for nine years in the leveraged debt capital markets group.

Bruce Thompson, head of Global Capital Markets, said: “Ms Murphy’s appointment is an exciting development for our Leveraged Finance leadership team and for our clients.”
