MasterCard Worldwide Middle East and Africa president Michael Miebach said the launch of Doha office will further boost its presence in debit, credit and prepaid cards, and in contactless and mobile payment sector in the Middle East and Africa.

The payment company received an operating license from Qatar Financial Centre (QFC) in June 2012, and currently has a presence in Dubai, Riyadh, Doha, Cairo, Casablanca, Johannesburg, Lagos and Nairobi.

The company had launched its PayPass payments program in the Middle East, which allows users to pay using their contactless card, key fob or cell phone on a point-of-sale terminal reader.

The contactless payment network now connects approximately 550,000 merchant locations in 48 nations, as of the third quarter of 2012.

MasterCard runs the fastest payments processing network, connecting consumers, financial institutions, merchants, governments and businesses in over 210 nations and territories.
