JMP Group, an investment banking and alternative asset management firm, has partnered with China Merchants Securities Company, through an investment in HuaMei Capital Company.

HuaMei Capital Company provides a range of cross-border merger and acquisition and strategic advisory services. The company is a joint venture of China Merchants Securities; MVC Capital, a publicly traded business development company managed by The Tokarz Group Advisers; and HuaMei Capital founders Adlai Stevenson III, former US senator and Illinois state representative, and Leo Melamed, former chairman of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and chairman emeritus of publicly traded CME Group.

Carter Mack and Ray Feng have been named co-CEOs of HuaMei. JMP Group has appointed its chairman and CEO, Joseph Jolson, to serve on HuaMei’s board of directors.

Mr Mack said: Through HuaMei, US and Chinese companies seeking to execute cross-border transactions will now be able to access high-quality investment banking services provided by leading strategic advisors on both sides of the Pacific. We believe that our affiliation with China Merchants Securities as well as MVC Capital and its chairman, Michael Tokarz, senator Stevenson and Mr Melamed will greatly benefit JMP over time.
