In his new role, Shields will be responsible for the company’s $6.7bn real estate loan portfolio in the Americas, consisting of term loans, construction loans and subordinate debt.

Shields will also be responsible for growing ING Real Estate Finance’s portfolio in the Americas by executing investments in cash-flowing, real estate assets, and positioning the company to borrowers with a proven track record in real estate development and management.

Shields has 20 years of experience in real estate lending, asset management, restructuring and workouts. Since joining ING Real Estate Finance in 2004, He has been directly responsible for more than $5bn in new loan originations for US real estate properties.

ING Real Estate Finance global head Rudolf Molkenboer said that Shields is a veteran of ING Real Estate Finance and brings a wealth of institutional knowledge and expertise to his new position.
