Biometric company Nuance will be providing the bank with the speech-recognition technology.

While the bank had previously introduced the voice control mode in its app, customers will now be able to use the biometric technology as an alternative for PINs and passwords, further simplifying the use of the app.

The app called Inge is already in use by over 100,000 ING Netherlands’ customers for checking their balance or issue payments within the app.

ING internet and mobile marketing manager Jeroen Losekoot said: "Thanks in part to the inclusion of biometric applications, we are able to make banking faster, smoother and easier for our customers and improve access."

Nuance executive vice president and general manager for the enterprise division Robert Weideman said: "By becoming the first bank in the Netherlands to incorporate voice biometrics into the mobile banking app, ING Netherlands is leading the charge in innovation by utilizing an effective solution that is natural and intuitive.

"Customers can now bank in a seamless and convenient way by using the sound of their voice from start to finish in the mobile app."
