Infosys Technologies has incorporated its wholly owned Brazilian subsidiary Infosys Tecnologia Do Brasil. The first development centre of the subsidiary is in Belo Horizonte, with IT services and BPO ecosystem.

The new centre is the company’s third development centre in Latin America, the other two centres being in Mexico, which employs 357 professionals. It will offer a suite of services to its Brazilian clients and Brazilian subsidiaries of global customers.

Gopalakrishnan, chief executive officer and managing director of Infosys Technologies, said: “The growth forecasts for the IT-BPO sector in Brazil have remained high despite the global economic crisis. Along with our centres in Mexico, our presence here will strengthen our ability to address both Spanish and Portuguese speaking markets in Latin America, driving our business growth in the region.”

Infosys said that it has been investing and strengthening its position in Latin America to expand its footprint in the region and also to leverage the near shore advantage of similar time zones for global clients.

The company has appointed Puneet Gill as the head of the new development centre. He has been with the company since 2003 and headed BPO operations in Mexico earlier.
