ICE has deployed MPLS network virtualization, full Level 2 and Level 3 VPN support, low-latency multicast and IPv6. ICE also deployed Juniper’s EX8200 Ethernet Switches that incorporates a built-in migration path for future 100 gigabit Ethernet (GbE) deployments without requiring any upgrades to the switch fabric.

The new infrastructure leverages the power of Junos to support millions of daily financial transactions from ICE’s customer base, which spans more than 50 countries.

Laying the foundation for this infrastructure is Junos, a single-source operating system that integrates routing, switching, security and network services. The combination allows network administrators to keep up with changing business demands while minimizing the complexity and risk associated with implementing network features and upgrades.

Mark Wassersug, vice president of operations at ICE, said: The majority of our business activity consists of trading functions which require a flexible and highly available network that can enhance operational efficiencies without sacrificing performance.

With Juniper’s routers, switches and world-class Junos Software, we can reduce latency in our network, which supports our ability to grow volumes and deliver high levels of customer satisfaction. As a result of the implementation of these and other leading-edge infrastructure components, ICE’s technology is recognized for its performance in the global derivatives markets.

Mike Banic, vice president of enterprise marketing at Juniper, said: As a leading global exchange operator, IntercontinentalExchange required a network that could meet their intensive bandwidth demands while driving down latency to facilitate its business operations. The deployment of our comprehensive and agile solutions enabled ICE to meet and exceed these critical requirements while driving down operating costs and delivering the flexibility to scale its infrastructure.

Atlanta-based IntercontinentalExchange is a financial company that operates internet-based marketplaces which trade futures and over-the-counter (OTC) energy and commodity contracts as well as derivative financial products.

California-based Juniper Networks is a provider of information technology and computer networking products.
