The new credit card can be used by German cardholders in China as well as CUP’s global network covering 90 overseas countries and regions.

CUP card acceptance business was opened in Germany in 2005. Previously, CUP and ICBC have signed strategic cooperation agreement on international business in August 2008 for global cooperation to achieve common development, mutual benefit and win-win situation.

Xu Luode, president of China UnionPay, said that Germany is China’s largest trading partner in Europe, while trade exchange and personnel communication between China and Germany has become increasingly frequent.

Mr Luode added that in future China UnionPay will further enhance its international cooperation, especially the international business cooperation with Chinese banks like ICBC, etc. to accelerate construction of CUP’s global acceptance network, and strive to build CUP card into the major bankcard brand worldwide to provide high-quality, secure and efficient payment service to increasingly more CUP cardholders both at home and abroad.

Zhang Furong, vice president of ICBC, said that rapid extension of CUP’s international acceptance network provided support for global business of Chinese banks. ICBC has maintained sound strategic cooperation relationship with CUP for long to realize resource sharing and synergetic business promotion.

ICBC will adhere to the service concept of ‘all for cardholders’, closely cooperate with CUP, and further promote in-depth cooperation of both parties on international business to provide ‘more powerful, more convenient, more secure and more favorable’ bankcard service to the cardholders, and jointly create major bankcard brands worldwide.

Additionally, ICBC in cooperation with Air China has introduced new ICBC Air China PhoenixMiles Credit Card, marks the first euro account credit card offered by Air China. The card will offer the the privileges of bank’s card along with Air China’s mileage card for regular flyers, reported Xinhua.
