Uppal succeeds Puneet Chaddha, who according to the local media reports will be given an altogether new role within HSBC Group.
Uppal has 19 years of experience in different fields of banking across different nations including India, Philippines, UK, Hong Kong and Mauritius.
Most recently, he was CEO of HSBC Mauritius.
HSBC India CEO Stuart Davis said Sandeep’s vast experience across different product and customer groups as well as different geographies serves as a huge asset.
"Given his vast banking experience and his knowledge of multiple markets, I am confident that Sandeep is well-positioned to take our commercial banking business to the next level," Davis said.
