Founder Matt Robinson said that Direct Debit enables SMEs, from wholesalers to service companies, with instant and easy access to the payment method which was broadly in use by their larger competitors for years.

With this new tool, any business can control of when they are paid with the low-cost and reliable payments.

Based on the existing service provided by GoCardless, the new product will charge a transaction fee of 1% for each payment, which is less than a third of the amount, charged by PayPal and others providers.

UK SMEs are owed £30bn in late payments, and waste on average 14 days a year, according to a source cited by the company.

GoCardless has grown by 40% month on month since its launch 18 months ago and its customers range from sole traders to established schools, gyms, accountants and wholesalers.
