The two firms have agreed to start a pilot project to unveil the SEQR Mobile Payments in the Romanian market, the firm said.

Apart from delivering increased convenience for users, the new technology will also reduce time costs for merchants as consumers can scan the QR code with their mobile phone and pay directly for their purchases, claims the bank.

According to the bank, the QR code recognizes the payment recipient connected to the Seamless transaction platform and consumers can pay directly from their accounts.

Garanti Bank Romania sales management dgm Anca Motca said, "With SEQR Mobile Payments, we will provide a clear incentive to all involved parties – merchants, financial institutions and consumers. Now we look forward to enhance our payment offerings, and enabling our customers to do their daily shopping with the mobile phone."

The Bank provides competitive products and services for retail, SMEs and corporate clients, through its network of 78 agencies, 225 smart ATMs, over 230,000 credit and debit cards, and a number of 7,400 POS machines.
