The first upgraded ATMs at the bank, which feature improved card reader hardware inside the machines as well as a software upgrade, are located at their 250 Park Avenue, New York, branch.

NCR Global Professional Services vice president Ruth Fornell said that the firm had experience in helping financial institutions in Canada and Mexico and institutions throughout Europe to make the ATM transition.

"Financial institutions throughout the US are evaluating and making plans to upgrade their ATM networks in order to stay in compliance with card issuers’ deadlines," Fornell added.

France was the first to pilot and implement EMV, and currently around 36% of cards and 65% of terminals that are deployed across the globe run using the EMV standard.

Vantiv became the first US acquirer to complete MasterCard’s testing requirements to process EMV transactions for MasterCard in April, and its network for EMV is certified on both NCR APTRA Edge and NCR APTRA Advance NDC software platforms.
