The issues were brought up by the affected customers through social media between 6am and 7am local time on Friday.

The bank said in a statement: "Commonwealth Bank restored services at 9am this morning and we apologize to all our customers affected by this issue."

Though, the extent of outage was not clear, some customers reported problems with online banking, ATM and EFTPOS services.

Earlier, the bank said: "We are currently experiencing intermittent technical issues with our systems.

"We apologise for the inconvenience to customers. The cause of the problem is under urgent investigation and we are working to have full services restored as a matter of priority."

The latest glitch is the second in just over four months. A hardware failure crashed the Commonwealth Bank’s network in April.
