Johnson was most recently head of HSBC’s MENA Commercial Banking business, and will relocate to Kuwait to take up the CEO role with immediate effect.

Johnson joined HSBC in 1986. He has extensive international experience having worked in Hong Kong, the Middle East, South America and Europe in many business areas including commercial banking, global banking, private banking, payments and cash management, trade services and e-commerce.

HSBC Middle East and North Africa CEO Simon Cooper said Simon has over 20 years senior banking experience, including three previous tours in the MENA region. He brings a strong track record of performance and achievement to this important regional role and an experience and dedication that will be a great benefit to their Kuwaiti customers.

HSBC returned to Kuwait in 2005, having originally opened for business in the country in 1942.
