The company has introduced the card in collaboration with VISA International and UnionBank of the Philippines, which facilitates the cardholders to direct Western Union Money Transfer transactions directly onto the card by sending a text message.

It also enables users to do money tranfers by calling a customer-service hotline, visiting Western Union’s website in the Philippines, or by visiting any participating Western Union Agent location in the country, said the payment provider.

The card also provides user an option to "split payout" that directs part of a remittance onto their cards and receive part in cash.

With the new card, there is no need to carry cash for marketing, as the card can be accessed at anywhere and anytime and it will also redirect to the Philippine e-banking services, as only 27% of adults over the age of 15 own a bank account.

Western Union global prepaid senior vice president Michael Hafer said Western Union moves money for better, and in the Philippines, it is proud to be a leading provider of money transfers, enabling hard-working overseas Filipino workers to enhance the lives of their families and loved ones.

"The Philippines is one of the most important markets in Asia. This unique new card – tailored to the needs of our customers – will help us deepen our relationships with our existing consumers and extend our relevance to new customers," Hafer said.

The Western Union Company together with its Vigo, Orlandi Valuta, Pago Facil and Western Union Business Solutions branded payment services, offers payment services through an integrated network of almost 500,000 agent locations in 200 geographies and territories.
