The Citi Handlowy MasterCard PayPass contactless debit card, linked to the holder’s personal bank account, offers functionality of contactless payments, a microprocessor for secure transactions, discount program and the possibility of connecting the debit card with a foreign currency account in Euros.

The new debit card concludes non-cash transactions in a few seconds. Payments with contactless cards (not exceeding the amount of PLN50) do not require entering a PIN code or signing the terminal printout. The client does not have to hand the card over to the seller but simply places the card in front of the PayPass reader. This is possible because contactless cards are equipped with a special transmitter so there is no need to insert the card in or swipe through the terminal.

The new cards are equipped both with a magnetic strip and microprocessor, to ensure security. Such solutions allow clients to use the card at readers servicing chip cards and those which just service magnetic strip cards.

Moreover, each holder of the personal account at Citi Handlowy may exchange the existing card for the new MasterCard PayPass debit card.

Krzysztof Drzyzga, business development manager of MasterCard Europe in Poland, said: “The project of contactless payments, which was launched by MasterCard two years ago, today transforms into a true contactless revolution. It is available for banks, acquirers, retail chains and consumers.”

Remigiusz Holdys, deposit products director at Citi Handlowy, said: “Owing to the technology, payment with the PayPass card is quicker and more convenient as compared with a cash payment. Clients do not need have to carry coins and they do not lose time fumbling for cash. Also, they do not have to wait for change. In a few seconds they are able to settle their payment. All debit cards issued by Citi Handlowy will, in future, have the PayPass function. We want this cutting-edge card to become the standard. Consequently, we are leaving the fee for the debit card at the same level.”
