BNP chief operating officer François Villeroy de Galhau was quoted by Financial Times as saying that "the aim was to attract new customers and to respond to the ‘explosion’ of smartphone usage since 2010."

The new approach, claimed to be 100% digitised, was initially introduced in Belgium, Germany, and is expected to draw 1.4 million clients within the next five years.

BNP Paribas Group Digital Banking Europe head Virginie Fauvel said, "Our apps are designed to provide a customer experience in line with the very best digital providers."

A team has also been set up in all Hello bank! countries to provide assistance with questions relating to the customer’s account or advice on mortgages and car loans during extended hours six days a week.

Further launch of the new banking approach is set to take place in France and Italy on 17 June and October respectively.
