The UK-domiciled fund has been designed to invest in the equities of companies domiciled or operating in Asia, excluding Japan, in order to achieve long term capital growth.

BlackRock Asian fundamental equities team head Andrew Swan will run the newly introduced Asia focused fund.

Going beyond large company stocks, the fund will invest in mid cap and off-benchmark holdings, and will have between 50 and 80 companies in the portfolio.

Swan said, "Asian equity valuations are below their long term averages making for an attractive entry point for long term investors."

"And fundamentally, the profound changes taking place in consumption, income growth and demographics are reshaping the investment landscape in Asia."

As of 30 September 2012, BlackRock had $3.7trn in assets under management (AUM) globally and offers investment management, risk management and advisory services for institutional and retail clients.
