The bank said that the appointment will help it accelerate the addition of new applications to all its markets.
In his role, Sezgin will report to Jose Maria Garcia Meyer-Dohner, head of global retail and business banking at BBVA.
Sezgin joins from Turkiye Garanti Bankasi in which BBVA holds a 25% stake.
He will remain as co-chairman of Garanti Payment Systems and will be based in Istanbul.
Sezgin joined Garanti in 1999 to form Garanti Payment Systems and prior to that he was the general manager of MasterCard Eurasia region for seven years years.
Prior to MasterCard, Sezgin worked for UK-based professional services firm Pricewaterhouse Coopers and at several other banks.
BBVA employs 104,000 people in more than 30 countries around the world.
