He will be accountable to manage the operational processes and systems which support the delivery of products and services to the bank’s customers and clients, as well as responsible for the bank’s technology program.
Antony Jenkins said that the appointment is part of its strategy to bring improvement, efficiency and effectiveness in the operations, leveraging technological innovation and automation.
He further said that Shaygan has been instrumental in helping devise and drive technology solutions and operational improvements at Barclays, since joining in 2011.
He joined the UK bank from Verizon in January 2011 and assumed the role of chief operating officer for retail and business banking.
Employing 140,000 people, Barclays trades in more than 50 nations with an extensive presence in Europe, the Americas, Africa and Asia and provides banking and investment services to its customers.
