The free service will enable customers with a web-enabled mobile phone to access Barclays online banking 24 hours a day.
The mobile website Barclays.mobi will take personal customers to the pages of Barclays online banking, which have been specially redesigned to be viewed on mobile phones. The page requires a secure log-in and, thereafter, customers can check their account balance and statements, with more services to be added in the near future.
Sean Gilchrist, director for electronic banking at Barclays, said: Barclays is constantly working to make the most of new technology and the opportunities it offers for accessing banking services. These days most of us are never far from our mobile phones and this new service means that we are now never far from our bank account either.
