Onuma will join Barclays from JP Morgan Securities Japan, where he was an executive director in that firm’s equity capital markets business. He joined JP Morgan in 2002 after spending two years at Goldman Sachs in Japan. Prior to that, he worked in the equity syndicate department at Nomura Securities.
Barclays Capital Japan president and CEO Eiji Nakai said Onuma will accelerate the already strong momentum of its equities and investment banking businesses.
Onuma’s appointment further strengthens Barclays Capital’s equity capital markets platform across the globe, and follows the recent hiring of Akihiko Asami as head of corporate finance, Japan, Naoki Toyoizumi as head of M&A, Japan, and Katsuhiko Hatazawa to lead the healthcare and chemical coverage effort in Japan.
