In his new role, Viegas will head the Malaysia consumer bank as well as provide oversight for the Singapore and Cambodia markets.
Viegas will be appointed as an executive director of CIMB Bank, subject to the necessary approvals from the regulatory authorities, said the bank.
CIMB CEO Nazir Razak said Renzo brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in consumer banking acquired over a span of close to 28 years in various markets including Malaysia.
"He will assume leadership of CIMB Bank’s consumer franchise and release me to focus on leadership of our expanding group as a whole," Razak added.
Prior to CIMB Group, Viegas served as deputy CEO of retail and international of RHB Bank.
In 2008, he joined RHB Bank as director of retail banking where he managed the consumer, insurance, hire purchase and small and medium enterprise businesses.
Viegas, a banking veteran started his professional career with Citibank in 1985 and progressively held senior positions in various Asia-Pacific countries including regional responsibilities until 2008.
In 2011, he was appointed as principal officer to oversee RHB’s overall operations.
