The bank recently inaugurated its second such branch in Palladam in the state of Tamil Nadu. First branch was launched in Bhogpur in Punjab last month.
The bank plans to open 25 more such banks in Tamil Nadu out of 100 branches it plans to open in the entire country.
The bank expects to open few branches in Coimbatore, Erode, Namakkal, Salem and Tiruchirapalli districts in Tamil Nadu, in this fiscal.
The bank would offer saving accounts with a minimum balance of INR1,000 exclusively at RBS branches, and offer services like at par cheque book, debit card, Anywhere Banking and telebanking.
Axis Bank president for Agri-business and Rural Bank SK Mitra said Axis bank was aiming at achieving the twin objectives of tapping semi-urban and rural potential as well as bringing technology-driven in underbanked districts and states.
“The RBS branch was also a part of Axis’ initiative of extending its footprint in Tier III, IV and V centers, with a population of around 10,000 to 50,000,” Mitra said.
