ANZ’s debit cardholders can select eftpos when paying with Apple Pay on an iPhone or Apple Watch.
The bank’s Access Advantage Visa debit card customers are provided with an option to select cheque or savings accounts through Apple Pay.
The new option offers flexibility to make purchases and withdraw cash at the checkout of participating merchants when customers select cheque or savings.
ANZ customer engagement lead Kath Bray said: “ANZ is continually looking for ways to improve our customers’ payment experiences and this gives our three million Access Advantage Visa debit cardholders more choice when making payments using Apple Pay.
“Customers will still enjoy the same high level of convenience and security they have become used to with Apple Pay and eftpos.”
The card numbers are not stored on the device nor on Apple servers, when customers use an ANZ debit card with Apple Pay.
A unique device account number will be assigned, encrypted and securely stored in the secure element on the device, and each transaction will be authorized with a one-time unique dynamic security code.
In addition, Apple Pay provides flexibility to secure all of the rewards and benefits offered by credit and debit cards.
eftpos managing director Stephen Benton said: “eftpos research shows payment choice is hugely important to customers and we’re excited ANZ debit cardholders will for the first time have the option to select eftpos to make a transaction from their CHQ or SAV account with Apple Pay.”
In September 2018, ANZ unveiled a new way for customers to access cash on the go, using only their smartphone or watch at 2,400 ATMs across Australia.
The new service does not require the use of a plastic card to withdraw cash. ANZ customers will be able to use their preferred mobile payments device across the bank’s entire range of mobile payments including Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, Google Pay, Gamin Pay and Fitbit Pay.
