Bank of Ireland expects this new structure to provide greater coherence between its different divisions, and says the move reflects the bank’s aim of growing its business internationally.

The restructuring comes after a successful bid to broaden the bank’s asset management portfolio by branching out into the alternative asset classes with a number of key acquisitions.

Creating a capital markets division is a logical strategic development of our ambitious international growth strategy, commented Bank of Ireland group chief executive Brian Goggin. The major businesses contained in the new capital markets division operate in most of the bank’s markets and require a common range of specialist skills. This structure provides the coherence and strategic focus necessary to ensure we capitalize on the investment we have made in talent development in this area over recent years.
