HSBC recently said that it would add 500 new ATMs to its UK-wide network, in a bid to improve the publics’ access to free-of-charge ATM facilities.
Now, as part of this initiative, the bank has revealed that it will place 50 of these machines in BT telephone kiosks. The first machine has already been installed in Sutton, Surrey.
A further four ATMs will be set up in Chiswick, Weston-super-Mare, Edinburgh and Barnstaple in October. HSBC says that the remainder will be installed over the next few months.
David Nibloe, head of express banking at HSBC, said: ATMs are well and truly a way of life for UK consumers today and our customers are telling us that they want free access to their cash in convenient locations, which is why we’re increasing our ATM estate from around 2,900 to over 3,400. We’re also responding to concerns about access to free ATMs in Britain and have committed to installing free machines in a number of areas that lack them.
