As part of the agreement, IBM and Serveis Informatics la Caixa, S.A. (Silk) will manage La Caxias’s infrastructure technology budget of more than EUR2bn for a period of ten years.

IBM will provide technology, operations, applications and infrastructure services to la Caixa through Silk and will also manage its data processing centres located in Cerdanyola del Valles and San Cugat in Barcelona.

La Caixa general manager Juan Maria Nin said the agreement allows them to offer better services to their clients and obtain competitive advantages in a sector in which innovation and new technologies are key to realising growth.

The contract will help expand la Caxias’s business in Spain and global markets and also strengthen its position in the financial sector such as mobility, social media and cloud computing.

The agreement is expected to save EUR400m for la Caixa and also facilitate alliance between Innovation Center in Barcelona and IBM’s research centres
