The new branches, which will be opened on a rolling basis, come as part of the building society’s plans to expand on its existing network of 131 branches. According to the company, after the successful March 2005 opening of a new branch in Stockton, work is now underway to identify further suitable locations.
Iain Cornish, chief executive of the building society, commented that a review of its sales channels has prompted Yorkshire to plan not only a major internet development program, but also a sales network expansion.
Mr Cornish said: In financial services it is often the internet which grabs the headlines, but we know from our own experience, that there is still strong demand for face to face advice.
He continued: The moves we are planning will help us improve our service to new and existing members and grow our market share in areas where we are not currently represented.
