Western Union said that the MoneyWise Prepaid Card complements its GoCash service, an in-lane money-transfer service offered through InComm retail locations in the US since December 2009.

Western Union president of The Americas and EVP Global Cards & Global Key Accounts Stewart Stockdale said as prepaid products continue to gain momentum with consumers, particularly in today’s economy, Western Union sees its suite of prepaid card services as an opportunity to continue strengthening both its relationship and value proposition with consumers seeking convenient prepaid services, and mass market retailers preferring to efficiently manage prepaid services at the check-out counter.

The prepaid cards can be loaded through various channels that include in-person at any of the over 46,000 participating agent locations in the US, direct deposit through an employer, loading directly through Western Union Money Transfer transaction, and adding funds online using a bank account.

The prepaid card can be used anywhere Visa and MasterCard Debit cards are accepted including online and ATMs. The cards are also protected by Visa and MasterCard’s zero liability policy.

InComm partners with over 150,000 retail locations. Through its relationship with InComm, Western Union will now offer the MoneyWise Prepaid card, marking the first time in US, to consumers through grocery and convenience stores, pharmacies, and mass merchandiser locations.

InComm CEO and president Brooks Smith said that the Western Union MoneyWise Prepaid Card brings strategic value to the portfolio of prepaid financial services products, backed with a leading global brand recognized by consumers.
