Under the terms of the new arrangement, Cardtronics will initially operate at least 50 ATMs at key service stations across Poland, with further 50 ATMs to be placed at multiple other retail outlets, including convenience and grocery stores, by May.

Cardtronics’ European consumer brand CashZone will be used on the company’s ATM placements in Poland.

Cardtronics Europe managing director Jonathan Simpson-Dent said: "This latest move from Cardtronics presents an excellent strategic opportunity to grow and diversify our European business in a healthy, cash-dominated market.

"Given current ATM penetration levels, the Polish market offers great potential for us and we expect that our ATM services will be very positively received."

Cardtronics expects the initial rollout to take place in the coming months, which will further lead ATM expansion for the company in Poland soon.

According to global payments research firm RBR, the Polish market has 485 ATMs for every million people compared to 1,066 ATMs in the UK and 1,355 in the US. Cash-oriented Polish economy has 90% of point-of-sale transactions involving cash, the firm said.
