The UK Credit Card Guide claimed that many credit card companies send their bills out late in the anticipation that the customer will incur a late payment fee as they would not have enough time to pay their bill and could potentially lead to a large debt. Credit card companies can date the bill appropriately but may not actually send the bill off until a few days before the payment is due.

It is difficult to identify this unscrupulous behavior as there are many reasons why a bill could arrive late, with the blame most likely to be given to the postman brining the mail late.

To avoid this risk, UK Credit Card Guide has suggested that customers pay online, if this option is available, or switch to another provider.
