Once launched, the service will enable registered Seven Bank customers to send money online via their bank accounts, mobile banking, and via 15,000 ATM machines throughout Japan.

Western Union said the introduction of money transfer services through ATM, which is planning to launch in July 2011, will mark the first time that its services are available through ATM in the Asia-Pacific region.

The service will connect Seven Bank’s accountholders to Western Union’s global network of more than 400,000 agent locations in 200 countries and territories.

Western Union Asia Pacific managing director and senior vice president Drina Yue said that more than two million people in Japan have moved there from abroad – including China, Korea, Brazil, the Philippines and the US – and they are often sending money home.

"Western Union is proud to make it easy for them move money how, where and when they want – 24 hours a day, seven days a week," Yue said.
