The Barclaycard PayTag is available free of cost exclusively to Barclaycard Visa cardholders, said the bank.

The new tool is an extension of a customer’s credit card account, which is one third of a normal card size, and can be stuck to the back of any mobile phone.

After card attachment, the mobile phone can be used to make payments of £15 and under, rising to £20 in June, by being held over a contactless payment terminal.

Barclaycard Consumer Europe CEO David Chan said the bank is offering the choice of mobile payments to millions of its customers at no additional cost to them.

"More than half of us say that the item we’re most lost without is our mobile phone[1], so we’re giving people the option of using them to make easy, convenient, everyday payments without the need to upgrade their current handset," said Chan.

"Barclaycard PayTag is another milestone on our journey to make paying easier, and sits alongside other easy ways to pay with your mobile such as those we offer in partnership with Orange."

According to the bank, its PayTag comes with the 100% fraud protection to ensure safety and security to the customer.

A study suggests that mobile phones in the UK will be used to make nearly £3bn worth of purchases in 2016.
